Summer of Fun – Kids Events

Our Summer of Fun Kids events are for children who have just finished P1 through P6. Many of our events take us outside. If the weather is poor we will still meet with an alternative plan inside the Church Hall.
Tuesdays 10:00 – 12:00 h.Thursdays 14:00 – 16:00 h.
5 July – Exploring Day7 July – Obstacle Course/Team Games
Today we will be exploring a couple of stone beaches and have some competitions. We will come back to the church hall and paint some stones. This session will also include a Bible story about creation, songs, and games. Supplies Needed: clothes for walking outdoorsToday we will be challenging one another with obstacle courses and other games. This session will also include a Bible story about Jesus asking fishermen to follow Him, songs, and games. Supplies Needed: clothes for outside
12 July – Scalloway Pool Session14 July – Water Wars
Today we will be going to the Scalloway pool for a swimming session. We will meet at the Church Hall at 10:30 am and be finished at 12:30 pm. Children should come ready to swim with their swimsuits under their clothes to get the most time in the pool. Children will change out of their swimsuits when the swim session is finished and will need all clothing to be dry. There will be a snack and a Bible story about Jonah and the whale. Spots will be limited for this session and a pre-swim form needs to be sent to lighthouse@burrabaptist.com. Supplies Needed: towel, swimsuit, change of clothes, bag for wet items, optional – gogglesToday we will be having water wars outside. Kids need to come prepared to get wet! This session will also include a Bible story about Jesus calming the sea, songs, and games. Supplies Needed: towel, change of clothes, bag for wet items
19 July – Team Games (STEM)21 July – Treasure Hunt
Today we will be having inside team games. This session will also include a Bible story about a miraculous catch of fish, songs. Supplies Needed: NoneToday we will be going on a Treasure Hunt in Hamnavoe. This session will also include about a Bible story a coin found in a fish’s mouth, songs, and games. Supplies Needed: clothes for exploring outside
26 July – Baking Day28 July – Scalloway Pool Session
Today we will be baking and decorating cookies in the hall. This session will also include a Bible story about Jesus eating some fish, songs, and games. Supplies Needed: NoneToday we will be going to the Scalloway pool for a swimming session. We will meet at the Church Hall at 12:30 pm and be finished at 2:30 pm. Children should come ready to swim with their swimsuits under their clothes to get the most time in the pool. 2 August – Beach Brunch4 August – Bouncy Obstacle Course/Games
Today we will be going to Meal Beach for some beach games and brunch. This session will also include a Bible story about Jesus having some breakfast at the beach, songs, and games. Supplies Needed: clothes for enjoying the beachToday we finish our Summer of Fun program with a bouncy Obstacle course and other games. We will have tea and coffee on this day for parents as well. Summer of Fun – Youth Events

Our Summer of Fun Youth events are for children that have finished P6-S6, including all secondary ages. Many of our events take us outside. If the weather is poor we will still meet with an alternative plan inside the Church Hall.

6 July – Games on the Pitch8 July – Laser Tag at Minn Beach
We will start off at the church hall and then head over to the football pitch for a few different games; rounders, kickball, etc.Meeting at Minn Beach, we will divide into teams and play laser tag! 7 to 9 pm.
13 July – Back to Base Game
Can you make it back to base? We will start off at the church hall, make teams and then get everyone to another side of Hamnavoe to see if you can make it back to base without getting tagged.
20 July – Beach Bum Night22 July – Take away & Movie Night
We will meet at Meal Beach for games and snacks.You can either bring some food or put in an order for Chinese takeaway and we will enjoy a movie together in the church hall. Meet at 6 pm in the hall!
27 July – Scavenger Hunt29 July – Overnight
Starting from the church hall we will see who can find everything for the scavenger hunt!We will be heading over to the Sumburgh Christian Youth Camp for an overnight residential. More details to come. E-mail Ken with any questions – ken@burrabaptist.com.
3 August – Capture the Flag at Kergord Woods5 August – Meal Beach Barbecue
We will start at the church hall and head up to Kergord Woods for a few rounds of Capture the Flag.We will finish the summer with a BBQ at Meal Beach just before Soccer School. We will meet at the beach at 6 pm.

Summer of Fun – General Information

Lighthouse is the name of our children and youth programs.

There is no charge for attending Summer Fun.  Donations are welcome and can be handed in at the events or given through PayPal.

There will be a minimum of 3 (disclosed) adults at each event.  If numbers require more, we will pull in more volunteers.

Please fill out this form to register for Summer of Fun and e-mail it to lighthouse@burrabaptist.com to let us know your child is coming along.

For most events, at the Burra Baptist Church Hall in Hamnavoe.  If an event has a different drop-off/pick-up location, it will be listed with the specific event listed above.

If you have not previously given us contact information, please come inside and register your child.

For each day’s activity, we will list what’s needed for that day in the event tab.

Event organisers do not accept liability for damaged or lost property including electronic games, mobile devices/tablets, wearable technology, etc.

Unless it is essential for the child, we recommend that expensive items, such as mobile devices are left at home.

Any medication should be clearly labelled with child’s name and with clear instructions for administration. Please consult with one of the adult volunteers if your child needs any medication.

A snack will be provided at each session.  Please make the team aware of any food allergies.

Our capacity for Summer of Fun is approximately 30 kids.  Letting us know ahead of time, will guarantee your child a spot.  The swimming sessions have less space and will require a pre-sign-up to attend.

Yes, with the exception of the swimming days, where a child will only be able to attend one of those sessions (unless there is extra space).

It is not uncommon for the children to leave personal items behind.

Please put names on items as practical.

Please check through the child’s belongings as you leave each day.

If you discover lost property, please talk with a member of the event team.

Any items that are not collected by the end of September will be donated to charity.
